Why you should consider carefully who you train with
I re-trained in everything (Colour Analysis, Ladies' Style, Make-up, Men's Image, and Corporate Image) during the summer months of 1999 and was shocked and horrified to discover that a number of the self-styled Image Consultants on the course couldn't tell the difference between cool and warm skin tones - which is absolutely fundamental to the whole process.
They had previously trained with other companies - some of whom are very well-known and you may have already come across them on the internet or in the press - and I, therefore, concluded that not all training courses are equal and some clearly do not do the job at all.
What shocked me more than anything was the thought of these people practising their dubious skills on the unsuspecting public - and getting paid for it!
No wonder I get so many ladies coming up to me at the end of a talk wondering if they really are a Spring as previously told them by another 'consultant', when it seems perfectly obvious from my observations that they are most probably a Summer (just an example - I'm sure you get my drift here)!
And I am still amazed at the number of people who contact me to say that they've trained with another company who have sold them a box of drapes and they haven't a clue what to do with them! Or worse, they're stuck with a bedroom full of make-up, scarves, etc. plus the dreaded monthly targets that accompany these. If this is you, and you are unhappy with the service you've been given, then complain loudly and insist on having your money back!
You need to make sure that the training you are paying for meets all your needs - if you don't know what your needs are, can I suggest that you make a list? To start you off:
- work through our course content and
- download my free eBook 'What does it take to become an image consultant? - answers to 17 questions you MUST ask before training
"It was great to have been able to talk to you earlier. Thanks ever so much for your time on the phone.
I have read the downloaded booklet ‘cover to cover’ and just know that this is what I need to be doing. I love helping people, am a good listener and I am very much looking forward to completely understanding colour. I have done so much research in the past and have never wanted to commit to a course due to the blinkered approach all the other courses seem to have. i.e learning only tonal or only seasonal, etc, and having to commit to their marketing plans.
I am going to start at the Business Link website, as you suggested, to see if they can help in any way with funding the training so that I set out with the right ‘business-minded’ approach right from the beginning.
I very much hope to be able to secure a booking with you by the end of this month, for the colour course in March. Thanks again for your time today - I really appreciate your advice." Denise, Northants, UK (Jan 08)
